Railway Win Indoor Group to Qualify for Finals

Following their 10-1 defeat of Pembroke before Christmas Railway took to the boards again last weekend in Greystones against Genesis, Alex and Trinity.  At 7.15pm on Saturday Railway beat Genesis 7-1 Jean McDonnell getting a hat trick and Kate Dillon netting 2, with the Joyces, Iz and Ceil sharing 2.  Bright and early on Sunday morning we returned to Greystones to play Alex at 10.00am.  Alex had also won all their games so we knew this was going to be a tougher challenge.  The Railway team were in top form and again ran out 7-1 winners, Kate Dillon getting a hat trick.  Rachel Barnett had an excellent game in the Railway goal.  Our final pool match was against Trinity.  We knew we had already qualified but needed a draw or a win to top the group. Trinity played a very defensive game, catching Railway on the break. Their GK was in top form and it was the closest match of the day.  It was 3-3 with a minute to go, Jean McDonnell scoring the all important goal from a corner to run out 4-3 winners.  Railway had a full 12 points from the 4 games, scoring 28 goals and conceding just 6.  Top scorers were Kate Dillon and Jean McDonnell with 8 goals each, Next weekend (14/15th Jan) Railway play in a play off group against Glenanne and Ulster Elks in Gormanstown, with the top two teams going through to the semi-finals in the National Basketball Arena in Tallaght on Sunday.
