Sunday 29th Jan – Railway 8 – Genesis 0 Quarter Final of Jacqui Potter Cup – by Holly Jenkinson

Railway had to wait 14 minutes to get their first of eight goals on Sunday, courtesy Jean McDonnell. The first half was a flurry of chances and also goals with Jean getting her second from a short corner switch 4 minutes after her first goal. Kate Lloyd had a superb game and scored a hat trick in the first half. She was superbly assisted by Sarah Hawkshaw, who was playing only her second first team game, for two of Lloydy’s goals. Julia O’Halloran also scored in the 26th minute from another short corner switch, this time the switch going to the left. The second half saw less goals but consistent pressure from Railway with the ball being switched around the back four in defence open up the play. Railway conceded just the one short corner in the second half and this straight strike was blocked down by Sinead Dooley and Holly Jenkinson. Helen Johnston made her first team debut of this season in the second half. One of her first touches was receiving a pass from Kate Dillon and then taking on and beating her player and drawing a free. Emer Lucey continued her form in front of goal of late and scored another straight strike from a penalty corner. And Jean McDonnell got her third of the game 16 minutes into the second half from another short corner.
Player of the match: Sarah Hawkshaw. Clean sheet: Grace O’Flanagan
